Heather Davis and Jill Russell pool their energy to create the CD 'Check the Beans.' With Jill on flute and Heather singing in English, Portuguese and scat, it is a blend of Brazilian and American jazz, samba, bossa nova, and baião. The title track 'Check the Beans' being composed by Jill, with English lyrics for 'Only one day' written by Heather. Recording the cd with them were the great musicians Jovino Santos-Neto on piano, Celso Machado on guitar, voice, and percussion, Eduardo 'beajoux' Barbosa on bass, and Claudio Slon on drums. Many of the compositions were written by Jovino and Celso, and the cd has a definite 'folkloric' feeling, influenced heavily by the music of the Northeast of Brazil. Also included is the music of Edu Lobo, Guinga, Dori Caymmi, and Filó Machado, who is Celso's brother. There are guest spots from jazz trumpeter Ron Miles, and jazz guitarist, Bill Kopper.
