Heather Davis
Detroit meets
Rio
Heather Davis has spent the last 14 years immersing herself in the
music and culture of Brazil. Her American roots are what sets her
apart from other Brazilian singers, for this is something that has
not come easily nor was it her birthright. So how can she sing with
no accent? And where does that natural "samba swing,"
as her Brazilian fans call it, come from?
This Detroit
native blends her Blues and R&B tinged voice with smooth Samba
and Bossa Nova rhythms to create a style clearly her own, singing
both in English and Portuguese. She has recorded three Brazilian
C.D.'s, "Você Ainda Existe" (1996,) with Marcos
Silva, "Check the Beans" (1999) with Jovino Santos Neto,
and "BrazilFest Key West" (2001) her latest, with Jovino
and the Rainforest Trio, recorded live at the historic San Carlos
theater, Key West, Florida.
Heather has
won audiences performing in Japan, Mexico, Brazil, San Francisco,
Detroit and South Florida. Her voice is strong, and at the same
time sensitive, her repertoire moves away from the ordinary, her
passion is unmistakable.
